Follow Batman! Long story short, here with my buddy Simon (Batman), we had to cross one part of Russia in one month because of our visa. On the way, I got a bad tendinitis on the knee. As it would slow us down for a while, the French consulate from Moscow gave us 2 options: either we take another mean of transport asap, or go see a doctor in a Russian hospital to get a medical certification to justify an extension of our visa’s duration. We haven’t cycled that far to stop that far! We went for the latter. After visiting 4 hospitals, I finally found someone who could write that paper. That day, I met a surgeon, with a blouse half covered of blood, who just took his 5min break to come meet me in the corridor. You could imagine my face...?!!! Staying at distance from each other, I showed my knee, he wrote the paper. Then, we went to the border of Kazakhstan as we were leaving Russia. We thought so... The border guards looked at the paper and said something like: “You were supposed to be out of Russia 3 days ago. We are not doctors, we don’t understand that thing. You gotta stay longer with us”. After taking selfies and playing ukulele with the guards, we had to stay 2 more weeks in the country illegally, with the possibility to be deported to our departure point (France) ending our hope to continue the journey till New Zealand on our bamboo bikes. Parents thought we would go to the goulag lol. We were banned to come back to Russia for the next 5years, we met a judge and paid a fine, then got another transit visa... at the end, we luckily got deported to our next destination which was the Kazakh steppes... adventure went on!
